Animal Rescue Center


Today started with a scenic bus ride through the beautiful rainforest region of Ecuador in order to get our study group to the Amazon.  After traveling for half a day, we finally arrived at the river and packed our gear into rustic wooden boats that would take us to our final destinations of the day - the Animal Rescue Center then the Jungle Lodge.  Volunteers work at this center to rehabilitate endangered animals that have been rescued from deforested land or animal trafficking and try to incorporate them back into the wild.  Our tour guide Thomas had worked on the land for 10 weeks and had only released several animals who were ready to be incorporated into the wild.  On our tour we saw some amazing creatures who loved the attention from our group.  We saw spider monkeys, squirrel monkeys, a peccary, toucans, parrots, a cayman, a capybara (the world's largest rodent), and a trumpeter followed us around all afternoon on our tour.  Here are some pictures of the curious creatures...
